Messages

What is spoken with each message, and how messages behave. Three sections.

General

  • Keep current focus when jumping to a message — off, jumping to a message (from search, a reply, or a bookmark) moves the reading cursor onto it. On, your place is left alone.
  • Louder incoming message sound — raises the volume of the incoming message tone.
  • Louder outgoing message sound — raises the volume of the sent message tone.
  • Announce user status in chat — speaks typing, recording, and online changes in the open chat.
  • Shorten search result previews — search results read a short preview instead of the whole message.
  • Delete messages for both sides by default — the delete confirmation starts with "also delete for everyone" already ticked.
  • Mark message in all accounts — a bookmarked message is remembered for every account rather than only the one that set it.
  • Announce the new message count only on the button — on, an arriving message no longer interrupts you; the count is spoken when you reach the Go to bottom button. Off, every new message announces the count, which in a busy channel talks over the message you are reading. On by default.
  • Show Search Navigation Buttons at Bottom — puts Previous and Next result below Go to bottom instead of above it.

Announced with each message

Each switch adds or removes one piece of what a message says. The order they are read in is set in Ordering Messages information.

  • Announce photo message type — says what kind of message it is: photo, voice, file, and so on.
  • Announce media album grouping — says that a message is part of an album, and its position.
  • Announce the channel post author — the signature on a channel post.
  • Announce the imported message mark — says a message was imported from another app.
  • Announce admin and group tags — adds "admin", "owner", or the group's own custom tag after the sender's name. On by default.
  • Announce download state for my own messages — says whether your own attachment has finished uploading.
  • Announce the reply sender before the reply text — in a reply, the name comes before the quoted text.
  • Announce time without the date — the time alone, for messages from today.
  • Comments Count, Replies Count, Votes/Answers Count, Reactions Count — each adds its own count to what a message says. Turn one off to stop hearing it on every post.
  • Ordering Messages information — opens the reorder screen. Every field above can be moved and switched off there, and the order is the order it is spoken in. Use the Up and Down buttons on each row; dragging is not needed.

Elements accessible in messages

  • Elements in a message — which parts of an ordinary message become their own stop for the screen reader.
  • Elements in a rich message — the same, for the block layout used by bot articles and instant views.
